Why do home sellers record buyers during showings?

Sellers in Saskatoon most often record showings for security, since a listed home sits vacant or semi-vacant for showings and a doorbell or interior camera deters theft and documents who entered, a practice the Saskatchewan Real Estate Commission expects licensees to disclose to buyers and their agents rather than run covertly.

A second common reason is liability. If something in the home is damaged or an item goes missing during a showing, footage settles a dispute quickly rather than leaving it as one party's word against another's, which matters more in a vacant estate sale where no one is living there to notice right away.

Recording is generally lawful in a home you own, but Saskatchewan Real Estate Commission conduct standards require disclosure, typically a small sign or a line in the showing instructions, so buyers know a camera is present before they walk through.

If you are touring a home and are not told a camera is running, ask your agent to confirm with the listing agent directly, the same way you would confirm any other detail before making an offer on a home at the Saskatoon benchmark of $444,700 or above.
