What is the Saskatoon senior property-tax exemption?

There is no program by that name. The City of Saskatoon does not offer a senior property tax exemption, and every residential property, regardless of the owner's age, is billed the same way, the mill rate applied to 80 percent of assessed value.

What Saskatchewan does run for seniors is income support rather than tax relief, such as the Saskatchewan Seniors Income Plan, which supplements a low-income senior's retirement income directly rather than adjusting a property tax bill, and the City of Saskatoon has no equivalent line item that reduces or defers the bill based on age alone.

The channel that can lower any owner's bill, senior or not, is an assessment appeal to the Board of Revision, filed within the deadline on the assessment notice, and it works by correcting the assessed value the mill rate is applied to, not by granting a discount for being a senior.

If the real question is whether the current home still makes financial sense to hold, that comes down to value against carrying cost, which is a different calculation than tax relief. Get your hand-reviewed valuation from Joel Dyck.
