Is opposing supportive housing the only option for homeowners?

No. Opposing a project outright is one option among several, and it is often not the most effective one. The City of Saskatoon's development permit process allows homeowners to request specific conditions, such as onsite staffing commitments or a good-neighbour agreement, rather than fighting a proposal on principle in 2026.

Joel Dyck, a REALTOR® with Real Broker SK Ltd., has watched neighbours get further by asking for enforceable conditions attached to the permit than by opposing a project that the City is likely to approve anyway under its zoning bylaw.

Monitoring is a third path. A homeowner can simply track a project's status through the City of Saskatoon's permit records and decide later whether it actually affects their street, rather than committing time to a fight before there is anything concrete to react to.

Joel Dyck helps clients weigh whether a nearby proposal is worth engaging with at all before they price a sale around it. Get your hand-reviewed valuation from Joel Dyck.
