That matters more in practice than the map distance suggests. A southeast starting point can reach the university, downtown or a north-side job without the stop-and-go of neighbourhood streets, which is the main advantage Circle Drive was built to provide across a spread-out prairie city.
The tradeoff shows up at the bridges and interchanges rather than on the open stretches of Circle Drive itself, and that is where winter conditions and rush-hour volume actually slow a trip down, not the distance between Lakeridge and downtown on a map.
