That is the opposite of the concern behind the other law, where a workaround let a landlord avoid paying by shifting the cost back to a renter. In Saskatchewan, the Residential Tenancies Act, 2006 governs the landlord-tenant relationship directly and has no comparable broker-fee provision to work around, because the fee structure here was never the same to begin with.
Where a Saskatoon renter does encounter an agent fee is unusual, and worth asking about directly before signing anything, since standard practice is that the party who lists the rental pays for the service of finding a tenant, not the other way around.
For most renters here the real question is not a broker-fee law that does not exist locally, it is simply confirming who is paying for representation before you sign. Get your hand-reviewed valuation from Joel Dyck.
